EU urges Serbia to allow EuroPride to be held after cancellation

The European Union called on Serbia to allow the holding of the EuroPride gay parade – its cancellation was announced after another conflict on the border with Kosovo. This was reported in a statement by the Foreign Service of the European Union.

“In light of the announcement of the cancellation of EuroPride, the EU encourages the Serbian authorities to continue contacting the organizers in order to find a solution and host EuroPride in an atmosphere of peace and security,” the statement said.

Brussels hopes that European partners will be responsible for human rights, including the right of LGBT people to assemble and express themselves.

On August 27, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić canceled a gay pride parade in Belgrade two weeks before it took place. The head of the country made this decision against the backdrop of mass protests by local residents. They staged marches with banners and insisted on the cancellation of the gay pride parade.
