The President of Croatia opposed the training of the Ukrainian military.

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic did not approve of the idea of training Ukrainian soldiers in the country.

“I am against this idea, because I do not support the involvement of Croatia in this conflict more than I should. <…> I, as the commander in chief, do not approve of this. I have not heard about this proposal, but I say in advance that I do not like it, it brings the conflict to Croatia,” Milanovic said at the inauguration ceremony of the rector of the University of Zagreb.

Milanovic also noted that the supply of Croatian weapons and equipment to Kyiv is possible only with compensation “with funds in return“, otherwise it will turn into “deprivation of blood circulation of the Croatian defense.”

On Monday, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjártó said that Vienna and Budapest would not join the EU mission to train Ukrainian troops.

The training of the Ukrainian military within the framework of the European initiative may start in mid-November, the project budget has already been agreed. Discussions are currently under way on which countries will participate in the project and who will send their instructors to work in the mission. In just two years, it is planned to train 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
