German police carried out a large-scale operation early in the morning against right-wing extremists who planned to storm the Bundestag and stage a coup d’état, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office said.

Security forces conducted searches in eleven federal states. 25 defendants in the case were arrested, of which 22 were members of a terrorist organization, and three more were its supporters.

It is noted that the organization was founded no later than the end of November 2021. The conspirators were going to overthrow “the existing state system in Germany and replace it with their own form of state, the main features of which have already been developed.”

“According to the investigations, there is also a suspicion that individual members of the group were specifically preparing for a violent invasion of the German Bundestag with the help of a small armed group. Details remain to be clarified,” the agency said in a statement.

Among the detainees is Russian woman Vitalia B. As emphasized in a press release, there is no reason to believe that Russian officials supported the conspirators.

“The accused Heinrich XIII Reiss has already contacted Russian representatives in Germany. However, according to the investigation, there are no signs yet that the contact persons responded positively to his request,” the press release says.
With whom exactly the conspirators tried to establish contact is not indicated.
