Members of far-right organizations are being searched throughout Germany

Police officers across Germany on Wednesday morning are conducting searches of 36 members of right-wing extremist groups, the German Prosecutor General’s Office said.

“Since this morning, on May 6, 2026, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, based on the decisions of the investigating judge of the Federal Supreme Court, has been conducting searches at approximately 50 sites in twelve federal lands. These measures are aimed at a total of 36 defendants,” the Prosecutor General’s office said in a press release.

The accused are charged with membership in a criminal community. Most of them are also charged with leading a criminal community. The eight accused are also being investigated for causing serious bodily harm.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, there is a suspicion that the defendants are prominent members of the right-wing extremist groups “Young and Strong” (Jung und Stark) and “German Youth Forward” (Deutsche Jugend voran), while the latter also sometimes speak under the name “New German Wave”.

The associations, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, have a nationwide structure and support the work of regional groups in federal lands. Their members coordinate actions both through social media and through regular meetings, while calling for acts of violence against political opponents, as well as against individuals allegedly being pedophiles, the report says.

At the same time, it clarifies in it, some of the accused allegedly attacked representatives of the left environment or persons whom they considered criminals. In all cases, the victims were beaten by groups of attackers and suffered serious injuries.

According to the report, no arrests were made as part of the operation, and searches are used to verify existing suspicions. More than 600 police officers at the federal and land levels are involved in the operation.
