Russia to hold naval war games and surface-to-air missile drills in Black Sea region amid Ukraine, NATO tensions

Russia never stops its drills all over the country, even amid the recent amid Ukraine and NATO tensions, Ministry of Defence is plotting scheduled war games in the Black Sea, Sun reported.

While tension spirals with Ukraine over the capture of three Ukrainian naval ships strengthens, Russian naval forces are starting their surface-to-air missile drills in Black Sea region. Major naval and surface-to-air missile drills are underway amid a war scare with its neighbour and NATO. The notorious Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system will be an integral part of the upcoming drills, the dates of which are still unclear.

According to the Ministry of defence, two Russian submarines practised the common things like the emergency deployments for detecting. The crews of both  Rostov-on-Don B-237 and the Stary Oskol B-262 will exercise how to accompany and destroy sea and coastal targets with rocket fire.

Submarine crews from the Black Sea fleet were also due to practice deep dives and to work on techniques such as emergency surfacing, the statement said. However, MoD’s document did not give a start or end date for the surface-to-air missile drills. Ministry of defence also didn’t answer the question if the submarine exercises were part of larger-scale drills in the Black Sea and on the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.

As the navigation warning to shipping published by Turkey’s navy noted, Russian “firing exercises” were expected in the region from December 3 to 9. It comes as a startling study by The Human Security Centre concluded Russia would be able to may be able to “overrun vulnerable areas of NATO territory” in a matter of hours.
