Major naval and surface-to-air missile drills are underway amid a war scare with its neighbour and NATO. The notorious Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system will be an integral part of the upcoming drills, the dates of which are still unclear.

However, MoD’s document did not give a start or end date for the surface-to-air missile drills. Ministry of defence also didn’t answer the question if the submarine exercises were part of larger-scale drills in the Black Sea and on the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.

As the navigation warning to shipping published by Turkey’s navy noted, Russian “firing exercises” were expected in the region from December 3 to 9.
