The DPRK will remain a nuclear state, and the issue of denuclearization is closed, the DPRK Foreign Ministry said.
⠀
Earlier, following a meeting of the advisory group on nuclear issues, South Korea and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to the common goal of denuclearization of the DPRK.
⠀
“The senseless accusations of the United States and its satellites against the DPRK … cannot have any effect on the irreversible status of our country as a nuclear state. “Denuclearization” is a definitively closed issue,” a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a statement, as cited by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
⠀
The ministry stressed that against the background of the transfer of the latest weapons to South Korea and Japan from the United States, as well as exercises involving these countries with simulated use of nuclear weapons, the DPRK needs to make active efforts to strengthen its security.
⠀
“Our work to create a nuclear shield is a natural process to deter interference and threats from external forces, guarantee the sovereignty and security of the state, and ensure peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.
