The number of Ebola victims has exceeded one thousand people, the WHO said

The number of Ebola victims in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has exceeded a thousand people, according to monitoring data from the World Health Organization.

So, according to WHO monitoring data, as of July 21, 999 people died from the virus in the DRC, two more died in Uganda. The total number of confirmed cases is 2,494.

Earlier, WHO’s responsible for incidents caused by the Bundibugio strain, Tierno Balde, told reporters in Geneva that the response to the outbreak was still lagging behind the development of the disease.

He pointed out that WHO is now giving priority attention to expanding the possibilities of safe burial of the dead, developing patient referral systems and the potential for clinical treatment in the most active foci of infection.

The outbreak has been reported in five provinces, but Ituri remains the epicenter, accounting for more than 89% of cases and almost 84% of deaths.
