The President of Nicaragua has announced that there will be no more elections in the country

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has said there will be “no more elections” in the country.

“Let them forget about it! There will be no more elections here for them (opposition political parties) to try to seize the government in this way, to seize power,” Ortega said during a speech on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.

The President stated that the government intends to work with the National Assembly and relevant organizations to develop laws that will set limits for such political forces. According to Ortega, the new laws should “put a barrier to the putschists, traitors to the motherland,” whom he accuses of an attempted coup and support from the United States.

The next general elections in Nicaragua were previously scheduled to be held in November 2027. Ortega did not specify whether the measures he announced involve canceling voting or restricting the participation of individual political parties.
