At least 15 people were detained during riots that broke out at the Obelisk in the center of Buenos Aires after the defeat of the Argentine national team in the World Cup final, according to Argentine media.

“As a result of the attacks, three city police officers were injured. Thefts of phones and personal belongings were also recorded. Official sources have confirmed that at least 15 people have been arrested in connection with these incidents,” TN TV channel reported.

According to TN, after the end of the match, thousands of fans gathered at the Obelisk to express their support for the national team. Initially, the action took place calmly, but later a group of people began throwing stones and bottles at police officers. In addition, several people overcame the fence around the Obelisk, after which they were detained by the police.

According to Clarín newspaper, seven police officers were injured in the clashes. The newspaper reports that law enforcement officers used tear gas and water cannons to disperse aggressive rioters, and also cites data on 15 detainees.
