For the first time in history, Spain began to waste gas reserves in the middle of summer

For the first time in history, Spain began to spend gas stored for the winter due to a lack of electricity for air conditioning, it became known from the data of the GIE association.

So, from July 2 to July 14, the country pumped 39.4 million cubic meters from underground storage facilities. She has been spending blue fuel for 13 consecutive days, which, on the contrary, is accumulated in the summer to prepare for the winter heating season.

This is the first time this has happened in the history of observations. The Association has been providing data since 2011.

At the same time, Spain not only started taking gas from storage facilities, but also stopped pumping it. This month, underground storage facilities are filled by an average of 73.3%, the lowest level for this month since 2021.

The reason why winter supplies have to be used up now is the abnormal heat. Spaniards massively use air conditioners. Electricity consumption is increasing, so gas-fired power plants are increasing their output, and they need more fuel.
