Turkey is ready to participate in possible future mechanisms for ensuring security in the Black Sea after reaching a peace agreement on Ukraine, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a press conference in Kiev.
⠀
“We have accepted the proposal of our partners regarding the possible provision of maritime security after the conclusion of the peace agreement. Certain planning is underway in this direction,” he said.
⠀
Fidan stressed that we are talking about preliminary preparations for the implementation of future agreements after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
⠀
According to the minister, Turkey is coordinating its actions with partners and considering various options for participating in security mechanisms in the Black Sea, which may be activated after the conclusion of a peace agreement.
⠀
Fidan did not specify which countries had made the relevant proposal or what specific security measures could be implemented.
⠀
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, Turkey has repeatedly acted as an intermediary between Moscow and Kiev. Ankara has also played a key role in the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and regularly declares its readiness to participate in international mechanisms aimed at ensuring the safety of navigation and stability in the Black Sea region after a peaceful settlement is reached.
