The number of deaths from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has exceeded 850, the Reuters news agency reported, citing data from the country’s authorities.

Earlier, the agency, citing the National Institute of Public Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (INSP), reported 828 deaths.

“The number of confirmed Ebola cases in DR Congo has increased to 2,181, including 864 deaths,” the agency said in a statement.

On May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda as an emergency and a danger to other countries.

WHO estimates the regional risk of the virus spreading as high.
