Turkey has exported a warship to a NATO and EU member state for the first time in its history, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the ceremony of handing over the Cam Roman patrol ship to the Romanian Navy.
⠀
The Cam Roman ship was built at Istanbul shipyards under a contract with Romania.
⠀
“Our military shipbuilding industry is experiencing the most intense and most productive days in the 103-year history of the Republic of Turkey. We are one of the countries that are simultaneously building the largest number of warships. By signing a contract with Romania, Turkey exported a warship to a NATO and European Union member state for the first time in its history,” Erdogan said.
⠀
The Turkish leader noted that in recent years, the country has built more than 140 offshore platforms for various regions of the world.
⠀
According to him, if 23 years ago the annual export of defense products amounted to 248 million dollars, today such a volume of supplies is carried out in less than a week.
⠀
The Turkish President added that Ankara considers the transfer of defense technologies to friendly states as one of its tasks, and Turkey’s goal remains to strengthen peace, stability and security in the region.
