Chechnya police have arrested 100 men who are reportedly gays, during the Saturday’s operation three more gays were killed as well. The Russian Novaya Gazeta informed about it on Saturday.

Chechnya, a south-east region of Russia, is the Muslim-majority region, its president Ramzan Kadyrov believes that there are no gays on the territory of his Chechen Republic. The report about the police raid and the arresting more than hundred alleged gays wasn’t confirmed by the spokesman of Mr Kadyrov, indeed.

Despite the Novaya Gazeta publication, Chechen President’s spokesman denied this fact. Accordig to Ali Karimov, it is rather hard to “to persecute those who are not in the republic.”

As a matter of fact, such plice raid could take place in Chechnya, believes the human rights activists and lawyers. It is extremely hard and sometimes dangerous for men suspected of homosexuality to live in Republic. According to NG report, the rcent police operation resulted in massive arrest and even 3 deaths of homosexual men.

The Kremlin-backed Kadyrov is widely accused of extensive human rights violations. He has brought Islam to the fore of Chechnya’s daily life, including opening what is called Europe’s biggest mosque.
