October 1, 2016

Hackers have targeted the election registration systems of more than 20 states during a few months, said on Friday the Homeland Security Department official.

Hackers made the election system vulnerable, being hacked the voter registration sites of 20 states. On Friday, with this information about a scale of the hacking in the pre-election United States shared an official of the Homeland Security Department. The specialist told this data on the condition of anonymity to the journalist of The Associated Press.

The cybersecurity experts say it would be quite hard for hackers to undermine the election system because of its decentralization, moreover, it is not connected to the internet. In fact, to hack such a system is nearly impossible, te federal officials concluded. Despite this assurance, the ABC News earlier reported that more than 20 states were targeted.

The FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers this week that the agency is looking “very, very hard” at Russian hackers who may try to ruin the U.S. election in November 2016.
