Slovenia as the native country of the First lady of the United States decided to honour her with the special wine. The ‘First Lady’ bottle costs about $30, this 2015 vintage wine is a great marketing move for the small European country.
Slovenia marked her famous daughter, Melania Trump, with the special wine, four Slovenian winemakers decided to monetise Sevnica’s name – in this small town Melania was born, since 2015, the Blaufränkisch grapes from this region became the raw material for new noble wine ‘First lady’.
The most famous ex-resident of Sevnica abstained from comments regarding Slovenian beverage. The wine first went on sale in the cellar at Sevnica Castle, a popular tourist hotspot in town, and the first 300 bottles sold out in just three days, according to wine industry magazine, Decanter.
“We have good wine, we have the best salamis and we have other products that are very good for the area; we shouldn’t be afraid or feel ashamed of offering them to a wider audience,”
Sevnica Castle steward Rok Petančič told Decanter.
According to the steward, this is one of the best ways Sevnica can promote its winemakers.
