The mayor of Berlin proposed to turn off the illumination of the Brandenburg Gate to save energy

The ruling mayor of Berlin, Franziska Giffei, came up with the idea to turn off the illumination of public buildings like the Brandenburg Gate after midnight.

“In our situation, it is worth considering all the possibilities for saving energy,” – the mayor said.

She clarified that the city should not be plunged into darkness, so a balance must be found between safety requirements and energy savings.

Earlier, the head of the largest regional gas company in Germany, GASAG, Georg Friedrichs, in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung, expressed the opinion that some German consumers should wash their hands and take a shower quickly, and young people can warm up by putting on two sweaters and running up the stairs. Even lowering the temperature by one degree in a residential area, according to Friedrichs, will save up to 7% of energy consumption.
