The US will send aircraft carriers and planes closer to Taiwan ahead of a possible visit by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to the island.

The military was initially opposed to the speaker’s visit, but now appears to be creating a buffer zone for Pelosi’s plane in case she decides to make a controversial visit.

According to sources, the congresswoman may meet with the head of the island’s administration on August 3. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry has yet to confirm this report.

In addition, it is not excluded that the plane with the Speaker of the House of Representatives on board may land at the Taiwan airport under various pretexts, including due to a breakdown or refueling. However, no matter what happens, China will be on high alert to be fully prepared for a possible military conflict, the material emphasizes.

If Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan does take place, it will be the first visit by a speaker of the US House of Representatives to the island in 25 years.

Pelosi is currently on an Asian tour, during which she intends to visit Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. However, Taiwan is not included in the list. As the politician pointed out on her Twitter page on July 31, the American delegation intends to discuss economic and security issues with partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Themes also include the climate crisis, human rights and democratic governance.
