Citizens of the United States, who were on the “black list” of Kyiv, demanded that Congress protect their rights

A group of US citizens blacklisted by the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation (CDC) has petitioned Congress to take action to protect their rights and freedom of speech. The corresponding letter was published on the website of the Washington-based Schiller Institute.

The list of Kyiv was published on 14 July. The authors of the document noted that the CPD accused them of promoting “Russian propaganda“, and also declared them “information terrorists” and “war criminals“.

They also noted that the JRC is funded by the US government. In this regard, the signatories to the letter demanded that congressmen “investigate the funding of this foreign government agency and its role in creating a direct threat to the rights and security of American citizens.”

In total, the names of 72 individuals from a number of countries were included in the “black list” of the Ukrainian JRC.

On March 9, 2021, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the start of the Center for Countering Disinformation. According to him, the JRC should become an international hub that will fight propaganda all over the world.
