Erdogan spokesman Kalin: Turkey will not be able to withstand a new wave of refugees from Syria

Politician Ibrahim Kalyn announced the impossibility of accepting another flow of Syrian citizens into the country.

“This is beyond her capabilities and abilities. On the contrary, we are making and will continue to make the necessary efforts for the voluntary, calm and dignified return of Syrian refugees to their homeland,” he said.

According to Kalin, the Turkish authorities attach great importance to the creation of a security corridor on the Syrian side.

“At the same time, Turkey will continue to act as decisively as before to prevent the creation of a terrorist corridor there,” the speaker concluded.

In order to stop the flow of refugees in 2016, the EU concluded an agreement with Turkey on the reception and accommodation of Syrians fleeing the war. The European side has committed itself to building the necessary infrastructure. As of 2021, about 3.7 million refugees from Syria live in Turkey, another 300 thousand from Afghanistan.
