France expects China to send clear signals to Russia regarding the conflict in Ukraine, said French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournet.

“We expect China to send very clear signals to Russia,” Sejournet said at a joint conference with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

As noted, the head of the French Foreign Ministry believes that Europeans will not be safe if “there is no peace in accordance with international law.”

“We are convinced that there will be no lasting peace if we do not reach an agreement with the Ukrainians,” Sejournet emphasized.

China can play a “key role” in enforcing international law, he said.

In February 2023, the Chinese authorities published a position paper on resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, which includes 12 points, including calls for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate security interests of all countries, and a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
