Germany called for the introduction of civil defense lessons in schools.

German schools need to introduce civil defense lessons and start conducting exercises, German Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger said.

“Society as a whole must be well prepared for crises – from pandemics to natural disasters and war. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce lessons and civil defense drills in schools,” Stark-Watzinger said.

She cited the UK as an example, where schools often conduct drills on how to behave in emergency situations.

According to the minister, secondary educational institutions also need to establish close relations with the Bundeswehr: the military can come to lessons and tell students about how state security is built.

“Young people must be aware of all threats and be able to cope with them,” Stark-Watzinger said.
