In the United States proposed to introduce a single charging format for smartphones similar to the EU

Three US senators from the Democratic Party proposed to introduce a single charger standard for charging consumer technical devices.

After the European Union decided to switch to a single USB Type-C charging standard for gadgets from 2024, the US decided to follow suit.

Massachusetts Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders of Island State, sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gene Raimondo, asking them to consider a bill to introduce a single standard in the United States.

The senators did not mention a specific standard that should be made uniform, but only stated the need for such action, since consumer electronics manufacturers are unable to “set uniform standards for chargers.”

“Innovation must benefit consumers. They should not come at their expense, burden them with incompatible accessories, and force them to buy different chargers for each device they own,” the letter says.
