NGOs criticized the authorities of the Netherlands for the intention to send refugees from Ukraine to the sea

The Dutch government offered to accommodate Ukrainian refugees on cruise ships, but this angered representatives of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The initiative of the Dutch authorities has faced criticism. The government of the country tried to solve the problem of overcrowded centers for the reception of migrants with the help of a new approach and proposed to place about three thousand Ukrainians on cruise ships put into operation. However, the VluchtelingenWerk Refugee Council called the measure “absurd”.

“A cruise ship as a temporary measure is already much better than the average emergency shelter. But it’s a completely different matter if you let them swim in the sea,” said a spokesman for the council.

Earlier it became known that the migrants had to sleep on the grass next to the specialized center, located in the Dutch village of Ter Apel. The reason for this was the lack of places for refugees.
