Scholz called for fair competition in the car market.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is currently on an official visit to China, called for fair competition in the automobile market and supported the entry of Chinese manufacturers into the European market.

“The only thing that should always be clear is that competition must be fair… So that there is no dumping, so that there is no overproduction, so that copyright is not violated,” Scholz said.

The Chancellor advocated openness and economic competition. According to him, at one time in Germany they were afraid of Japanese and Korean cars coming to the local market.

“Nonsense! Now Japanese cars are in Germany, and German cars are in Japan. The same applies to China and Germany,” Scholz said.

Scholz is visiting China for the second time as Chancellor of Germany. He becomes the first Western leader to visit China this year.

Scholz last visited China in November 2022.

According to the German government, in addition to economic relations, the focus of the current visit will be geopolitical challenges and sustainable development strategies.
