Serbia won’t join EU without recognizing Kosovo, Scholz says

Accession to the EU of Serbia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo is impossible without the mutual recognition of Belgrade and Pristina, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a visit to the Balkans.

The German Chancellor is visiting the Western Balkans on Friday, starting with self-proclaimed Kosovo. After meeting with “Prime Minister” Albin Kurti Scholz, he said that by imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation, the Kosovo “government” showed that it “stands on our side in the international community” and switched to the topic of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

In the afternoon, Scholz is expected in Belgrade, where he is scheduled to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic
