Steinmeier announced a landmark break in relations with Russia.

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine caused a “epoch-making break” in Berlin’s ties with Moscow, said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“When we look at today’s Russia, there is no place for old dreams. Our countries today stand against each other,” he said.

In addition, Steinmeier noted that modern Germany was “plunging  into a time of insecurity that we thought we had overcome.” Thus, the President noted the danger of the spread of the “fire of war” in Europe.
