Stoltenberg called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to come to an agreement.

Stoltenberg called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to come to an agreement.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who is visiting Yerevan on Tuesday, called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to conclude an agreement that would pave the way for the normalization of relations between the countries.

“Today we discussed the importance of ensuring stability in the South Caucasus. This has implications for Euro-Atlantic security as we live in a more dangerous world. Armenia and Azerbaijan now have the opportunity to achieve sustainable peace… Therefore, I urge the countries to conclude an agreement that will pave the way for normalization relations and peaceful coexistence of your peoples,” Stoltenberg said during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which was broadcast on the NATO website.

He also added that “NATO supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia,” and approved the internal reforms being carried out in Armenia and partnership with the alliance.

Stoltenberg used another public appearance to once again call for support for Ukraine. “The situation on the battlefield remains difficult, but this is a reason to increase, and not reduce, our support for Ukraine,” the secretary general said.
