The British Foreign Office put Alina Kabaeva and Putin’s relatives on the sanctions list

The UK authorities have introduced a new package of sanctions that affected the Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva, the ex-wife of Russian President Vladimir Putin Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, as well as relatives of the head of state. The list is published on the website of the British government.

The restrictions also affected the president’s cousins ​​Roman and Igor Putin, as well as nephews Mikhail Putin and Mikhail Shelomov.


The new sanctions include an asset freeze, a ban on entry or stay in the UK, and transport restrictions.


The UK imposed the previous package of sanctions on May 4 against a number of Russians and Russian companies in connection with a military special operation in Ukraine. Among those sanctioned are Russian presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Pankov, head of the Otkritie bank Mikhail Zadornov and CEO of the Rostec state corporation Sergey Chemezov.
