The Chinese Foreign Ministry protested the United States because of the pressure on Chinese companies.

China opposes the generalization of the concept of national security and unreasonable pressure on Chinese companies by the United States, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a briefing on Monday, commenting on the US decision to ban the use of communications equipment and video surveillance equipment from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE.

“These US actions are yet another example of the generalization of the concept of national security, the abuse of state power, and the application of unreasonable pressure on Chinese companies … The Chinese side strongly opposes this,” the diplomat said.

Zhao Lijian stressed that China will firmly protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

The US Federal Communications Commission has previously banned the use of communication equipment and video surveillance equipment manufactured by Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE.

“(Ordinance) prohibits issuing permits for all telecommunications equipment and video surveillance equipment manufactured by Huawei and ZTE,” the document says.

The ban applies to the products of all subsidiaries and affiliates of both Chinese companies. The commission explained the decision taken by the need to block access to American communication networks to “hostile governments.”
