The Eurogroup has approved the accession of Croatia to the eurozone from January 1, 2023

The Eurogroup (Council of Ministers of Finance of the Eurozone) approved on Thursday the accession of Croatia to the Eurozone from January 1, 2023 in connection with the fulfillment by this country of all the criteria for entry. This is stated in the published statement of the Eurogroup.

“Today, the Eurogroup approved the recommendation of the member countries of the eurozone to the EU Council. The recommendation invites Croatia to introduce the euro from January 1, 2023,” the document says.

It notes that EU finance ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg on Thursday agreed with the positive assessment by the European Commission and the European Central Bank of Croatia’s fulfillment of the criteria for joining the euro area.

The decision of the Eurogroup is the main one in the process of admitting a country to the Eurozone, then the EU Council will formally approve it on June 17, and the final procedure should be completed at the EU summit in Brussels on June 23-24.

Croatia will become the 20th member of the Eurozone.
