The Foreign Ministry called US statements on START untenable

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia considers untenable US statements that Moscow’s suspension of the Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START) is legally invalid.

As the diplomat noted, Moscow drew attention to the “insinuations” of the US State Department that Russia’s decision on START was allegedly incorrect from an international legal point of view.

“We consider such stuffing as an element of Washington’s current political propaganda campaign, the purpose of which is to force Russia to restore the START regime and preserve the opportunity for the United States to unhindered” transmission “of our strategic arsenal,” Ryabkov said.

According to Ryabkov, if the futility of these calls is not yet obvious to everyone in Washington, then Moscow is ready to repeat again that in the conditions of the West, led by the United States, conducting an all-out hybrid war against Russia, such an option is completely excluded.

“If the United States is really interested in the resumption of the New START and, in general, cooperation with us in the field of arms control, then they should first give up empty fantasies about inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia and recognize that there is no alternative to taking into account Russian interests in the field of security” Ryabkov added.
