The Pentagon did not get Germany’s consent to the transfer of tanks to Ukraine

The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, did not get the new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to agree to the transfer of German tanks to Ukraine, CNN reports, citing sources in the US administration.

Sources told the channel that the issue was still unresolved ahead of Friday’s meeting in Ramstein and that “it would be surprising” if Germany changes its mind, despite the efforts of the US Defense Secretary.

A senior administration official said that Germany would only agree to provide tanks to Kyiv on the condition of a similar move by the United States and did not want to consider other options.

“It’s stupid. They think it’s the same thing, but it’s not. They don’t seem to understand the difference,” the American official said.
