The Peruvian Parliament declared the President of Colombia persona non grata.

Peru’s parliament has voted to declare Colombian President Gustavo Petro persona non grata over his remarks about the country’s police force.

The head of the parliamentary committee on international affairs, Maria del Carmen Alva Prieto, who presented the initiative to the deputies, noted that the Colombian president continuously intervened politically in the affairs of Peru and insulted the national police by comparing them to Nazi troops during a public speech on February 11.

“A resolution was supported in which it was proposed to express their rejection of the statements of Colombian President Gustavo Petro and declare him persona non grata,” the statement said.

The parliamentary website notes that 72 deputies supported the initiative, 29 opposed and seven abstained.

The Congress requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use the appropriate diplomatic channels to transmit the document to the Colombian envoy to Peru, Eufracio Morales.
