The US Armed forces are planning to carry out military executions for the first time in more than half a century, ABC reports with reference to an internal document of the country’s Ground Forces.
⠀
“The army is preparing to carry out the death sentence of four employees sentenced to death if the president gives the appropriate order,” the TV channel reported.
⠀
The plan, codenamed “Decisive Justice,” was sent out for internal use back in February. It concerns the preparation for such a measure of punishment for Americans convicted of murder and rape in a prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. Previously, civilian prisoners were executed there.
⠀
Several army units have been instructed to enforce the order, if it is followed, no later than 150 days from the date of President Donald Trump’s approval of the death sentences.
⠀
The last time, in 1961, Private John Bennett was sentenced to exceptional punishment in the United States for the rape and attempted murder of an 11-year-old girl in Austria.
