The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has declared a state of emergency (ES) due to the spread of monkeypox in the country.

According to Health Minister Javier Becerra, they are ready to take the response to the virus to the next level. “We urge every American to take monkeypox seriously,” he announced.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the country ranks first in the world in terms of the number of cases. To date, 6.6 thousand cases of infection have been recorded in it.

Earlier, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the decision to declare a state of emergency in the state due to an outbreak of monkeypox. She explained that such a decision was made in order to strengthen efforts to counter the virus.

Also on July 28, it became known about the intention of the administration of US President Joe Biden to introduce a state of emergency throughout the country by the end of last week due to the spread of monkeypox. However, the decision was not final, and the representative of the US Department of Health said that the agency “continues to explore options.”
