The US Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate to the highest since 2006

The forecasts of Russian analysts were justified: the US Federal Reserve System, following the results of the May meeting, raised the base interest rate by 25 basis points to the level of 5-5.25 percent per annum.
Thus, the rate is at the highest level since 2006, when it reached 5.25 percent per annum.

The Fed stressed that a further rate increase would be appropriate, the agency still expects to achieve maximum employment in the economy and inflation at two percent in the long term.

“When choosing a suitable position in monetary policy, the committee will continue to monitor the impact of incoming information on economic prospects. The committee will be ready to adapt monetary policy appropriately if risks arise for the purposes of the committee,” the regulator said in a press release.
