Polling stations have opened in Turkey for the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Voting stations will be open until 17:00 local time.
More than 191,000 ballot boxes have been installed in 81 provinces, according to the High Electoral Commission. 60,721,475 citizens have the right to vote.


Voting at foreign polling stations took place from April 27 to May 9. More than 1.8 million people took part in it. The turnout in Turkish representations in 73 countries exceeded 53% and became a record.

Three candidates are vying for the post of head of state – incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (Justice and Development Party), a single candidate from six opposition parties Kemal Kilicdaroglu (Republican People’s Party) and Sinan Ogan from the Ata alliance.


There are 24 political parties and 151 self-nominated candidates for seats in parliament.


It is expected that the final results of the elections will be published this coming Friday, May 19th.
