Xi Jinping promised that China will actively increase imports.

China will vigorously expand its imports of high-quality products and services, and open up more market opportunities, growth and cooperation opportunities for the world, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok on Saturday.

“We should adhere to open regional cooperation and jointly promote the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region, actively expand openness and comprehensively improve the level of regional economic cooperation. China’s determination to expand openness at a high level will not change,” the Chinese leader said, quoted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

He stressed that “China will actively expand the import of high-quality products and services, and open up more market opportunities, opportunities for growth and cooperation to the world.”

China’s imports for 10 months of 2022 increased by 3.5% year-on-year, to $2.2645 trillion, while exports grew by 11.1% over the same period and amounted to $2.9922 trillion. The total volume of foreign trade in dollar terms increased by 7.7% over 10 months of 2022 and reached $5.2568 trillion. The positive balance of China’s external trade turnover amounted to $727.7 billion.


At the end of 2021, China’s foreign trade turnover increased by 30% and amounted to $6.051 trillion, while exports grew by 29.9% and amounted to $3.364 trillion, and imports – by 30.1%, to $2.687 trillion.


The APEC summit is taking place in Bangkok on November 18-19.
