Mexican press criticised President Enrique Peña Nieto for Wednesday’s meeting with Donald Trump. The journalists were angry with President’s inability to resist the pressure of mogul. According to the press, Peña Nieto wasn’t ready for Trump.
The Mexican political press concluded on Thursday that their President “Peña Nieto was not ready for Trump,” declared Jorge Ramos. Trump’s expression about wall on the US-Mexico border was discussed too. Peña Nieto later disputed that on Twitter, writing,
“At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear Mexico will not pay for the wall.”
Peña Nieto during the meeting with Donald Trump has cleared many issues. Mexican President offered a point-by-point rebuttal to Republican’s claims that NAFTA is just a sop for Mexico, that an unprecedented flood of illegal immigrants is flowing into the U.S., and that Mexico is blindly exporting its criminals.
In any case, Peña Nieto used an opportunity to upbraid the real estate mogul and publicly defend his country. At a short press conference held after the their private meeting between Trump and him, a Mexican president called for “mutual respect” between the U.S. and Mexico.
