Obama to create first US Atlantic marine monument

President Barack Obama is very concerned about ecology, his efforts on the nature conservation and ecology legislation were highly appreciated by the environmentalists. On Thursday, Obama to create first US Atlantic marine monument.

Barack Obama plans to designate on Thursday an undersea range of canyons and peaks off the US Eastern seaboard as the country’s first Atlantic marine national monument. The acting US President is going to his efforts to keep the marine biodiversity, so, the creation of the first US Atlantic marine monument is one oh his steps in the final months of presidency.

The environmental legacy, which was developed year by year during the both presidencies of Barack Obama, resulted in the creating of a marine monument, said White House page. The new Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument will protect 4,913 square miles of ocean.

The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument situated 130 miles southeast of Cape Cod on the southern edge of George’s Bank, within its boundaries, a recreational fishing will still be permitted. The departments of Interior and Commerce will be responsible for managing the area.

It is not the first Marine National Monument, opened during the presidency of Obama. In August, the US President had a trip to Midway atoll in the Pacific which was quadrupled in size by the presidential decree. The expanding that Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument and opening another one (The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts) have stressed the desire of President Obama to protect vulnerable environments.
