The German authorities want to eliminate the gas distribution network in the country as part of decarbonization and the transition to clean energy.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy Patrick Greichen at one of the events asked representatives of public utilities to plan the dismantling. At the same time, he referred to the decarbonization schedule.

“Of course, there will be no gas in the networks by 2045,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.

The Secretary of State also called the original plan to use networks to transport green hydrogen a dream.

However, many in Germany criticized such a proposal. In particular, the head of the Association of Municipal Enterprises, Ingbert Liebing, considered the idea inappropriate, as it would devalue the multibillion-dollar infrastructure. Kerstin Andree, director of the Federal Association of Energy and Water Supply Companies (BDEW), called such plans counterproductive, noting that gas distribution networks are part of the future German energy system.

After the imposition of sanctions, Moscow from April 1 began to accept payments from European countries for gas only in rubles. The importer must open a special account with Gazprombank, to which he will transfer funds in the currency specified in the contract, the bank will sell this currency on the Moscow Exchange and credit rubles to the account of the gas buyer, from which settlements with the supplier will be made.
