In Finland, they announced a possible stop to the process of joining NATO

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that the NATO accession process for her country and Sweden could “freeze in place”. This will happen if it is not possible to reach an agreement with Turkey before the Alliance summit in Madrid, she said at a press conference in Stockholm.

”I think at this stage it is very important to move forward. If we do not resolve these issues before Madrid, there is a risk that the process will freeze in place <…>. We don’t know how much, but it can freeze for a while”, said Marin.

She added that Helsinki takes Ankara’s concerns “seriously” and intends to consider them and “if there are any misunderstandings, correct them.” According to her, part of the responsibility in finding a solution lies with Turkey. Moreover, they have previously stated that Finland and Sweden “will gladly be accepted into NATO.” However, when the applications were submitted, Ankara changed its position, Marin stressed.
