Finland will protect the border with Russia with a fence 1300 km long

The Finnish Parliament supported on Thursday, July 7, amendments to the bill on border protection. The document will make it possible to install a 1.3 thousand km long fence on the border with Russia and close it for refugees in emergency situations.

The bill, despite the fact that it is contrary to the norms of the European Union, was approved by the majority of members of the country’s parliament.

This bill will allow the Finnish government to rapidly issue orders to build barriers near the Finnish border and direct all requests for asylum to one or more border points, such as an airport.

Foreign Ministers of Finland and Sweden Pekka Haavisto and Ann Linde, as well as the ambassadors of 30 member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance on July 5 signed protocols on the entry of new states into NATO. The process of ratification of Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to NATO was launched in Germany on July 1. It was initiated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany.
