Scholz called a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine a condition for Putin’s visit to Germany

The main condition for the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Germany is a peace treaty between Moscow and Kyiv, which does not have the character of a “forced peace”. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on the possibility of the Russian president’s trip to Berlin.

At the same time, he noted that he did not reflect on the likelihood of Putin’s visit. However, the most important condition for this event will be the cessation of all hostilities in Ukraine, Scholz stressed.

“This is the reason why we support Ukraine with weapons. Russia must recognize that it needs to come to an agreement with Ukraine, and this should not lead to a forced peace … These are the tasks that are now being discussed,” added the head of the German government.

Earlier, Scholz appreciated the initiative to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians. The German chancellor said that he could hardly imagine stopping the issuance of visas to Russian tourists. He explained that the leadership of Russia, not its citizens, is responsible for the situation in Ukraine.
