The opposition Party of Socialists of Moldova appealed to the Constitutional Court to check the legality of the decision of the authorities to index pensions in the country by 14% with an inflation of 30%, the press service of the political force reported on Monday.

Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilizar earlier explained the decision of the authorities not to index pensions by 30% by the lack of funds in the budget.

“The Socialists appealed to the Constitutional Court in order to check the legality of the decision of the Action and Solidarity party to index pensions from April 1 by 14.4%, that is, less than the inflation rate at the end of the year at 33.8%,” the party’s website says.

Socialists point out that the establishment of indexation less than inflation contradicts the law on the state pension system, according to which “the indexation coefficient represents the inflation rate at the end of the previous year.”

Representatives of the Socialist Party expressed the hope that the Constitutional Court would support their appeal, given that the Constitutional Court itself also turned to Parliament with a request to index the salaries of judges of the Constitutional Court at the level of inflation.
