The EU Delegation to Georgia welcomed the withdrawal of the draft law on foreign agents.

The EU delegation welcomes the withdrawal of the bill on foreign agents in Georgia, which caused a wave of protests in Tbilisi, called on the country’s political leaders to resume pro-European reforms.

Earlier it was reported that the draft law on foreign agents was withdrawn from the Georgian Parliament.

“We welcome the ruling party’s announcement of the withdrawal of the ‘foreign influence’ bill. We call on all political leaders in Georgia to resume pro-European reforms in a comprehensive and constructive manner and in line with Georgia’s 12 priorities to achieve candidate status,”  a statement published on Twitter of the EU Delegation in Georgia says.

Protests began in front of the Georgian parliament building in Tbilisi on the morning of March 7. Its participants opposed the adoption of the bill on foreign agents, which was approved that day in the first reading.
