The former prime minister of Slovakia called for the publication of data on shells for Ukraine.

The former prime minister of Slovakia called for the publication of data on shells for Ukraine.

The head of the major opposition party Smer, former Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has called on new Defense Minister Martin Sklenar to make public information regarding the amount of ammunition and military equipment transferred to Ukraine.

“We call on the new Minister of Defense Sklenar to decide whether he will cover up Nagy’s deception (Jaroslav Nagy, former Slovak defense minister) or make public the following information: the ammunition and military equipment that was transferred to Ukraine, what is the state of our ammunition stocks, how the defense capability of Slovakia is ensured,” Fico wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Fico urged the new defense minister to meet with members of the Smer party to discuss these issues.

According to him, in February 2022, the Slovak government decided to donate military equipment in the amount of 8.6 million euros from the stocks of state material reserves. Fico noted that his party sought to ensure that information about this was provided to the public, but was refused.

Sklenar, who took office on May 15, said that Ukraine needs Slovakia’s support, so it will continue.

During negotiations on February 9 on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels, Volodymyr Zelensky officially asked the now former Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger to supply Ukraine with Slovak MiG-29 fighter jets. Heger told him that Slovakia would do its best to comply with this request. In April, Slovakia completed the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. Fico argued that the MiG-29 fighters were transferred to Ukraine in gross violation of the country’s constitution.
