Britain is considering limiting payments to people with disabilities

The British Cabinet is considering the possibility of tightening conditions for the payment of disability benefits due to the increase in cases of mental illness, the British edition of the Financial Times wrote.

“On Thursday, Secretary of Social Security Stephen Timms will launch the first stage of the review of the disability benefits program,” the newspaper said.

As the publication explains, this decision was made due to a significant increase in the number of applications for benefits due to mental health problems.

The newspaper reports that the number of recipients of this benefit has reached 4 million people, and the number of applications for mental illness from people under 30 has increased by 72%.

The Cabinet is expected to consider a more flexible payment system with a wide range of amounts, with some applicants being offered therapy or treatment instead of monetary compensation. Under Labor, spending on social spending by the working-age population has increased significantly and amounts to 5%, which forces the UK government to change the conditions for receiving payments under this program, the Financial Times reports.
