The Belgian Foreign Minister announced the imminent recognition of Palestine

Belgium will soon recognize the statehood of Palestine, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost said amid the dissolution of the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip.

The government of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Palestinian Hamas movement, announced on Monday that it was terminating its powers and handing over the reins of government to a specially created national committee for the management of the Gaza Strip.

“I don’t know if we will be ready (to recognize Palestine) by Friday, but it will be on the agenda soon,” Prevost said.

In September 2025, Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, San Marino and France announced recognition of the State of Palestine at a conference at the UN headquarters in New York. At that time, Australia, Great Britain, Canada and Portugal also officially recognized Palestine.
